Eighteen-year-old Celaena Sardothien is bold, daring and beautiful – the perfect seductress and the greatest assassin her world has ever known. But though she won the King’s contest and became his champion, Celaena has been granted neither her liberty nor the freedom to follow her heart. The slavery of the suffocating salt mines of Endovier that scarred her past is nothing compared to a life bound to her darkest enemy, a king whose rule is so dark and evil it is near impossible to defy. Celaena faces a choice that is tearing her heart to pieces: kill in cold blood for a man she hates, or risk sentencing those she loves to death. Celaena must decide what she will fight for: survival, love or the future of a kingdom. Because an assassin cannot have it all . . . And trying to may just destroy her.
After how much I loved Throne of Glass, my general opinion was that Crown of Midnight could never match up to those levels of awesome, which is why I deliberately lowered my high expectations before diving into this book. I needn't have worried though because Crown of Midnight blew my expectations out of the park. I started out very wary but I knew just a few pages in that this book would be close to, if not on par with the awesomeness of Throne of Glass.
I had three worries coming into this book: That Celaena wouldn't be as kick-ass yet vulnerable, that Chaol wouldn't be as tough-nut but swoonworthy and that Dorian wouldn't play on his brokenheart, however my worries were kicked in! Celaena is even more kick-ass in this book (if that's possible), I remember one distinct scene where she jumps through a window to rescue someone and beats up loads of people, Celaena remains one of my favorite heroines after this book! It was Chaol Westfall that makes this book for me though, this is one swoonworthy, tough and unique hero and I believe that he is the perfect match for Celaena - forget Dorian, that love triangle has been wiped out! This book has Celaena and Chaol actually acting on all the pent up romantic and sexual frustration that was so totally there in Throne of Glass. I could seriously just read 300 pages of Chaol and Celaena conversations because they make me laugh, sigh and swoon! I love this couple.
There is really no other way to describe the plot of this book than awesome. Maas builds on the characters and plots from Throne of Glass but makes Crown of Midnight it's own book. The plot is different to the first book but we still get to see Celaena kick-butt, there are a couple of deaths and quite honestly I cried a lot... and the ending of this book frustrated me to no end! Honestly, how the heck am i supposed to wait for the next book now?
Sarah J. Maas... I will find you... I will come to your house... and I will torture you Celaena Sadorthien style until you give me that manuscript.

This series kind of reminds of me of His Fair Assassin. I own Throne of Glass but haven't read it yet. Glad that the MC is a good heroine, that is definitely a must have. Great review, makes me want to pick up Throne of Glass ASAP!
