Review: The Scorch trials (The Maze Runner #2) by James Dashner

The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2)Thomas was sure that escape from the maze meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one knew what sort of life they were going back to.

The earth is a wasteland. Government and order have disintegrated and now Cranks, people driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim…and meal.
Thomas can only wonder - does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

I finished this book verrrry late last night, then immediately opened up the laptop to review it, I gave up in the end because I really didn't know where to start. This book boggled my brain, drove me insane and now I am shaking for the next one in the series. I know that I'm going to struggle to write this review without giving spoilers.

The Gladers have come out of the Maze, filled with hope that it's all over and they can go back to their lives again, but soon they find out that they haven't been saved. No, they've been taken out of the maze just to be thrown into another kind of hell. This one is a lot worse, in my opinion, filled with more scary monsters like the Cranks, human beings who have been driven crazy by a mind debilitating disease called The Flare, which it turns out The Gladers have been given as well.

This book is a lot more thrilling than The Maze Runner, there are more secrets being revealed, a lot of betrayal and crazy twists and turns that pretty much gave me literary whiplash. This book also had a lot more character development, especially for Thomas, when he discovers more about his past. Thomas goes through a lot of events that really change him throughout this book, and he's become a much stronger character by the end.

I totally loved how, like The Maze Runner, this book gives many clues and hints so that you feel like you've figured everything out in the end, then any twist comes and you realise that you actually know nothing, I came away thinking that I'd figured it out, but looking back, I actually a lot from the clues, but have know idea how it all fits together!

This book was actually better than the first book in the series, I am so excited to read the third book. This book is jam-packed with suspense and action, making The Scorch Trials one of the most thrilling reads of the year!
